Pieter Welman
Head of Global Infrastructure
Pieter Welman is responsible for the overall management of Barings’ infrastructure debt team across London and New York. Based in London, Pieter chairs the Barings’ Global Infrastructure Debt Investment Committee, manages the global portfolio and is responsible for contributing to the overall strategy of the infrastructure business within Barings Private Assets. Pieter is also a member of the Private Placement Investment Committee. Prior to joining the firm to set up Barings’ European Infrastructure team in 2015, Pieter worked in the Infrastructure EMEA team in Credit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank with responsibility for originating, structuring and executing non-recourse financings and prior to that at Barclays. Pieter is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountant in England and Wales and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. Pieter holds a bachelor's degree in commerce from University of Stellenbosch, South Africa.
Orla Walsh
Managing Director
Orla Walsh is a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager in Barings’ Global Private Finance Group. Orla has worked in the industry since 2009, most recently for StepStone Group where she built out the European Private Debt asset class and team. Prior to that, Orla held roles at The Carlyle Group, Goldman Sachs and European Investment Bank. She holds a Bachelor of Business Studies and a master's degree in business, economics and social studies from Trinity College Dublin.
Stuart Mathieson
Head of Europe & APAC Private Credit & Capital Solutions
Stuart is the Head of European Private Credit and Capital Solutions. He currently chairs the Capital Solutions investment committee and is a member of several firm investment committees including Europe Private Credit, North America Private Credit, APAC Private Credit and MassMutual Ventures Europe & Asia fund. Stuart joined Barings in 2002 and has extensive investment experience encompassing the sub-investment grade public and private credit markets, restructuring and special situations investments. Prior to joining Barings, he worked in the Business Recovery Services team in London at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He is currently a board member of Trafalgar Entertainment and has extensive experience of working closely with a number of businesses whilst at Barings. Stuart holds a B.Sc. in Chemistry from Keble College, Oxford and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales.
