Akbar Tajani

Akbar Tajani is a Managing Director with Barings Real Estate, a global real estate platform with extensive capabilities across both debt and equity strategies. Akbar is a member of the Portfolio Management team, where he is responsible for all real estate investment activities for Martello Re, including real estate private credit, private equity and securitized credit. Prior to joining the firm in 2020, Akbar was a director with Pine River Capital Management in New York, where he was responsible for originations, capital markets and asset management for a publicly traded mortgage REIT, Granite Point Mortgage Trust (NYSE: GPMT). Previous professional experiences include Abraaj Capital in Dubai, a global emerging markets alternatives investment firm where Akbar was responsible for real estate private equity and Cantor Fitzgerald in New York, where Akbar was responsible for establishing a real estate investment management business focused on private equity and debt strategies. Akbar started his career with BlackRock in New York, where Mr. Tajani focused on real estate private equity as a member of the portfolio management, acquisitions and financing teams.

Mr. Tajani holds an MBA from Columbia University and a B.S. in operations and finance from the University of Southern California.
