The airport is 1km north of the M5 Motorway with access from both The River Road and Henry Lawson Drive. The Hume Highway is 2km north.

Bankstown Airport is a multi-use facility located on 313Ha of leasehold land with approximately 157Ha dedicated to aviation infrastructure and related uses. There are approximately 66.8Ha of surplus development land at the site with zoning that allows a range of permissible uses including industrial, retail, and aviation.

Bankstown Airport is the fifth most active airport in Australia with three parallel sealed runways, two helicopter landing sites, 90 hangar structures, a passenger terminal and control tower.
