WILL THE FUND BE INVESTING ALONE?

The Future Fund will primarily focus on investments into private market sponsor funds that are willing to dedicate time and resources toward making investments in the state of Alaska, and/or co-investments alongside other private market sponsors. Future Fund investments may bring, alongside of them, additional investor capital to invest in the state of Alaska.

WHAT IS A PRIVATE MARKET SPONSOR?

A private market sponsor either contributes capital, capital market expertise, contacts or experience to an investment. As a business owner or advisor, a private market sponsor typically handles the company’s capital structure and balance sheet, as well as strategic initiatives—including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and management restructurings. The company’s CEO and other senior management typically maintain responsibility for day-to-day operations.

WHAT IS A PRIVATE EQUITY CO-INVESTMENT?

A private equity co-investment is an equity or debt investment in a private company, generally made alongside a private market sponsor. Typically, the co-investor maintains minority ownership, while the private market sponsor maintains controlling ownership.

IS THE FUND ONLY INTERESTED IN MAKING INVESTMENTS?

In-state investment programs not only make capital investments, but also help build the overall investment climate of the state of Alaska. Foremost, we seek to generate an appropriate risk-adjusted return for the Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation (“APFC”) and the constituents who depend on the APFC. However, the program also includes working with the community to bring together investors, business leaders and capital.
