Barings Deepens Investment in Charlotte Center City, Expanding Third Ward Retail and Entertainment

Barings, one of the world’s largest diversified real estate investment managers, announced today an investment in Charlotte Center City, on behalf of one of its managed accounts. The 100 W. 3rd St. project, will include the redevelopment of retail space along the corner of Third and Church Streets, adjacent to Romare Bearden Park in Uptown Charlotte. Renovations will commence in February and are scheduled to complete in late summer.

“We continue to seek opportunities to invest in our community, and this project will further enhance our city’s Third Ward,” said Tom Finke, Barings Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and incoming Charlotte Center City Partners Board Chair. “Our vision for this project is to deliver high quality retail that complements our existing investments at 300 S. Tryon and the Tryon Park Hotel.”

In conjunction with the renovation project, Barings is exploring opportunities to bring urban art to the upper façade of the parking garage above the newly renovated retail space, which will further enhance the area and spark intrigue from city goers.

Cassie McCrain, Managing Director at Barings Real Estate, added, “We are excited to embark on this project to improve the Third and Church Street corner. The interest we are receiving from prospective retail and restaurant tenants is very positive.”
