Chris Bates

Chris Bates is a member of Barings Real Estate, a global real estate platform with extensive capabilities across both debt and equity strategies. Chris is a Managing Director and Head of Europe Real Estate Debt Origination and is responsible for the origination, structuring, underwriting and execution of senior debt transactions across Europe. Chris has worked in the industry since 1993 and his experience has encompassed over 20 years working primarily in the United Kingdom market as a financier, principal, co investor and advisor. Prior to joining the firm in 2013, Chris worked in the Structured Real Estate Finance team within the Global Banking Markets Division at RBS where he became Managing Director of the Real Estate team completing transactions across the capital structure. Chris also worked at Chelsfield PLC and GE Capital Real Estate, sourcing and closing direct real estate investment opportunities across the United Kingdom, and at King Sturge Co where he qualified as a Chartered Surveyor undertaking roles in valuation, CRE agency, and financial services. Chris holds a M.A. from Magdalene College, Cambridge.
