Head of Aviation, Private Equity/Real Assets
Matt Elwood is a member of Barings’ Private Equity/Real Assets Investment Committee and leads the team’s investment strategy in aviation. Matt joined the firm in 2016 and has worked in the industry since 2000, bringing over 22 years of experience. At the firm, Matt has led the growth of the team’s investment capabilities in aviation and the expansion of the team’s commercial aircraft leasing company, Genesis. Matt currently sits on several boards including Genesis Aircraft Services. Prior to joining the firm, Matt spent 16 years at Goldman Sachs in their Fixed Income, Currency & Commodities and Investment Banking divisions, where he sourced, structured and distributed debt financings. His work involved structuring transactions for borrowers across a broad range of industries, including municipal / tax-exempt borrowers, hedge funds, corporates and insurance companies. During his time there, he headed the Structured Finance Analytics team for 2 years, where he was responsible for quantitative modeling of the Structured Finance department's more complex financing mandates, specifically within the aviation sector. Matt holds a B.A and an M.A. in Economics from Boston University.
