Barings Strengthens Its Research & Analytics Team With the Appointment of Philip Conner as Head of U.S. Real Estate Research & Strategy
Barings, one of the world’s leading financial services firms, announced today that Philip Conner has joined the Barings Alternative Investments (BAI) Research & Analytics team as Head of U.S. Real Estate Research & Strategy. The team, led by Colin Gordon, supports Barings’ alternatives business by aiding in the execution of investment strategies while seeking to maximize returns for clients. Conner will oversee all activities associated with the Barings U.S. Real Estate research team and will serve as a voting member on the U.S. Real Estate Equity Investment Committee. Conner will report to Gordon, and be based in Hartford, CT.
Under Gordon, BAI Research & Analytics has strengthened its deep real estate sector and geographic expertise, complemented by an analytics function that amplifies the team’s ability to collect, augment and analyze data. “The power of Barings’ real estate research is to take our investment team’s invaluable judgment and experience to maximize its positive effect on our clients’ capital and our business,” said John Ockerbloom, Head of U.S. Real Estate Equity. “As Barings embarks on its next stage of growth, Philip’s knowledge and expertise will increase our ability to provide vital information that strengthens real estate investment decisions.”
With more than 25 years of investment and research experience, Conner joins Barings from Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, where he served on the Executive Committee and Strategy and Risk Management Committees. At Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, he was a Senior Portfolio Manager on the Investment Research and Public Markets team and was instrumental in the development and implementation of a globally listed property securities program. Prior to this role, Conner spent over 12 years as a member of the investment research team at Prudential Real Estate Investors. He earned an MBA in Finance from NYU’s Stern School of Business and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Middlebury College.
“I am thrilled to join the outstanding BAI team and look forward to proactively expanding the U.S. Real Estate Equity and Debt businesses with world class research practices,” said Conner. “Barings is a well-respected firm with solid growth opportunities and I am eager to build upon the strong foundation established by this great team.”
