Tadaaki Kurozumi

Tadaaki serves as Representative Chairman of Barings Real Estate Investment Japan and a managing director on the APAC Real Estate team. His role focuses on wider client coverage of both Japanese on-shore and off-shores, leading deal and investor originations as well as overall investment strategy and management.

Tadaaki has 30 years of Japanese real estate investment experience. Prior to Barings, he co-headed Savills Investment Management Japan for more than10 years with focuses on various discretion fund launches and their growths, after having co-founded its predecessor entity, Merchant Capital, in 2005. From 2000 to 2005, he served as a director at Merrill Lynch Japan, where he was responsible for pricing and underwriting of distressed debt, hard assets, and real estate–related M&A, various financing and equity transactions. His team originated and managed NPL transactions valued in excess of USD 5bn. From 1993 to 1998, he worked for Sumitomo Realty and Development, specializing in commercial property developments.

Tadaaki is a graduate of the University of Tokyo, Faculty of Engineering and holds an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. His qualifications include Registered 1st class architect, Certified Urban Renewal Coordinator, Condominium Redevelopment Consultant, and Licensed Real Estate Transaction Manager.
