Chairman & Chief Executive Officer
Tom Finke is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Barings, a $338+ billion global financial services firm with offices across the U.S., Europe, Australia and Asia. Mr. Finke's 34-year financial career has included roles in both the banking and investment management industries. He joined the firm in June 2002 when Babson Capital Management acquired First Union Institutional Debt Management (IDM), a $3.6 billion high yield loan manager which he co-founded, from Wachovia Corporation. From December 2008 to May 2011, Mr. Finke also served as EVP and CIO for the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, relinquishing these responsibilities to focus on the expanding Babson Capital enterprise. In 2016, Babson Capital Management, its subsidiaries, and Baring Asset Management merged and Mr. Finke was named Chairman and CEO. He received an M.B.A. from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business and holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce.
President, Barings LLC
Michael Freno is President, Barings LLC, and is a member of Barings Executive Leadership Team and Barings Board of Directors. Mike oversees Barings’ investments (Global Markets and Barings Alternative Investments), product management, distribution and marketing functions. He is Chairman of both the Global High Yield Allocation Committee and the Global Investment Grade Allocation Committee, as well as a member of the Global Distressed Committee. Mike is also Chairman of the Board of Barings BDC, Inc., (NYSE: BBDC), an external business development company managed by Barings. His experience canvasses two decades on the buy-side, focusing on both equity and debt investments. Mike holds a B.A. from Furman University and an M.B.A. from Wake Forest University.
Anthony Sciacca is a Strategic Advisor for Barings. Previously, he was Head of Barings Alternative Investments and Head of Global Business Development for Babson. He also served on a number of firm investment committees and company boards. In this capacity, he drove business development initiatives across Babson's investment strategies from fixed income to alternative asset markets and oversaw the management of Babson's institutional and retail relationships globally. He has worked in the industry since 1993. Prior to joining the firm in 2006, Anthony held various positions in investment banking, including Head of Structured Credit Origination at Wachovia Securities. He also was a structured credit market specialist at Bear Stearns and at Bank of America and began his career as a financial services consultant at Andersen Consulting (Accenture). Anthony holds a B.S. in Applied Economics from Cornell University.
Chief Financial Officer
Patrick Hoefling is Barings’ Chief Financial Officer, providing oversight and direction of the firm’s financial planning and reporting, records management and data analytics. Patrick is a member of Barings’ Global Investment Services Group and head of the Financial Planning and Analysis Group. Patrick has played an integral role in the creation of the firm’s client and portfolio service for MassMutual, as well as coordination of daily operational and accounting needs for the firm’s sales, operations, investment services and accounting groups. He has worked in the industry since 2002. Prior to joining the firm in 2008, he worked in the Private Client Advisory Tax Group at Deloitte & Touche, and Mangan & McColl Partners, a Charlotte-based hedge fund. Patrick holds a B.S. from Villanova University and a Master of Accountancy from North Carolina State University.
Head of Asia Pacific, Head of Global Business Development Group
Duncan Robertson is Barings’ Head of Asia Pacific and also serves as the firm’s Head of Global Business Development. Based in Sydney, Duncan’s responsibilities include setting the firm’s strategic direction in Asia, and leading a team of professionals spanning six countries across the region to deliver investment solutions and service to Barings’ Asian client base. In his role overseeing global sales and marketing activities, Duncan is responsible for all of the firm’s business development, marketing and client service efforts. Throughout his time at the firm he has been actively involved in all aspects of the institutional, retail and wealth distribution businesses. Duncan has worked in the finance industry since 1991. Prior to joining the firm in 2008, he oversaw all fixed income distribution activities for Merrill Lynch in Australia and New Zealand. He also spent over seven years with Westpac Banking Corporation working primarily in the areas of corporate and structured finance. Duncan holds a Bachelor of Business from RMIT University, is a Chartered Accountant and a member of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia.
Chief Administrative Officer, Head of Global Human Resources
Susan Moore is Barings’ Chief Administrative Officer and Head of Global Human Resources. Susan is responsible for all employment activities that attract, develop and reward a motivated and competent workforce. She has over 31 years of investment industry experience encompassing business leadership & strategy, organizational and employee development, and Global Human Resource management. Prior to joining the firm in 1989, she worked at MassMutual as a Human Resource Consultant. Susan is a B.S. candidate at Bay Path College, holds the professional designation of Advanced Human Resource Professional Series from Cornell University, and is a member of the Society for HR Management (SHRM).
Chief Legal Officer & Global Head of Legal
Sheldon Francis is Barings’ Chief Legal Officer and Global Head of Legal, and is responsible for all legal affairs for the company. Prior to his current role, he served as Co-General Counsel for Babson Capital Management. Sheldon has 18 years of legal experience, encompassing all aspects of the investment management industry, corporate finance and corporate restructurings. Prior to joining the firm in 2006, he was a member of Helms Mulliss and Wicker (n/k/a McGuire Woods), and began his legal career as an associate at Bass, Berry and Sims PLC. Sheldon holds a B.A. from Duke University and a J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law.
Chief Compliance Officer & Global Head of Compliance
Christopher DeFrancis is Barings’ Global Head of Compliance. He is responsible for overseeing the firm’s global compliance program. Christopher has worked in the industry since 2001 and his experience has encompassed securities and investment advisory matters, hedge fund and CDO formation, derivatives trading and private finance transactions. Prior to joining the firm in 2001, Christopher was an associate at Hill & Barlow, where he concentrated his practice on commercial and securities litigation. He began his legal career as a law clerk to The Honorable Sandra L. Lynch on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Christopher holds a B.A. from Dartmouth College and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
Chief Executive, Barings Europe
Julian is the regional Chief Executive of Barings in Europe. He is responsible for the day-to-day general management of Barings’ main U.K. operating entities. He has more than 35 years of industry experience. Julian joined Baring Brothers & Co. in 1985 as the group accountant until the investment bank was later formed as Baring Asset Management, a division of Barings, in 1989. He became finance director in 1997. Julian was previously with City based auditors Neville Russell. He has a degree in Economics from Leicester University and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1985.
Chief Communications Officer
Cheryl Krauss is Barings’ Chief Communications Officer and is responsible for driving strategic direction and oversight for global communications. She is a seasoned professional with a distinguished track record of developing global positioning and brand consistency while engaging key stakeholders for leading financial services firms. Most recently, Cheryl was Global Head of Communications for BNY Mellon across Digital, Technology, Operations, Client, Incident and Cyber disciplines. Prior to BNY Mellon, she served as Bain & Company’s Worldwide Senior Director, Public Relations, where she was responsible for the firm’s global communications and led initiatives to integrate technology and innovation among employees. Before joining Bain, Cheryl was a Managing Director at Burson Cohn & Wolfe (BCW), advising in a range of agency and in-house communications roles. She started her career as journalist and photo-journalist with ABC and NBC affiliates in Florida and CBS News, Inc. in New York. Cheryl holds a B.S. from University of Miami and studied art history at University of Sydney.
