Jim Clayton, Ph.D.

Jim Clayton is Head of Strategy & Analytics for Barings Real Estate Advisers. Jim is responsible for monitoring and forecasting real estate investment and capital market trends, advising on investment and portfolio strategy, and delivering applied research and strategic thought pieces. He is a member of the real estate equity and debt Investment Committees and Valuation Committee. Prior to joining the firm in 2008, Jim was Director of Research at the Pension Real Estate Association (PREA). Before joining PREA, he held faculty positions at the University of Cincinnati and Saint Mary’s University and is currently an Adjunct Professor in the Real Estate Program in the School of Business at the University of Connecticut. Jim is a Fellow and former President of the Real Estate Research Institute (RERI) and Chairman of the PREA Research Committee. Jim holds a B.A. in Economics from Queen’s University, an M.A. in Economics from the University of Western Ontario and a Ph.D. from the University of British Colombia.
